As a layman who understands none of the math or physics, I was struck by that requirement of "balance" to ~30 significant digits. Maybe ours is the only "region" of pre-space in which that target was hit. Maybe it happens every googolplex of years. Maybe all those other would-be universes are simply expanding forever because they never will hit the magic balance needed for a big bang. Do we think we know even approximately how many of these regions there are? How many regions or successful big bangs do there need to be for the inflation model to work for our own universe?
