Doesn't work for me. What crime did Cohen commit? If Trump reimbursed Cohen, then Cohen didn't make an illegal contribution to him.

What is the burden of proof in establishing the predicate crime? Cohen's conviction? That seems wrong. Will Cohen testify to committing the crime? Must the jury find beyond a reasonable doubt that Cohen intended to benefit Trump without being repaid (so that Cohen's payment to Daniels was a campaign contribution and not just a personal loan)? Does the prosecution need to prove that Trump knew Cohen had committed a crime? If Trump's purpose was hiding the fact that he was reimbursing Cohen for silencing Daniels, is it clear that he was trying to protect Cohen? If not, how is the element of cover-up established.

This is a stinky prosecution.
