Fleeing and Eluding
Thanks to the Norman invasion, it is very common in English legal jargon to combine an Anglo-Saxon word with a French-based word. Deeds convey property "to have and to hold." People are ordered to "cease and desist." A worker acting outside the scope of employment is on a "detour and frolic." It sounds quaint because it is quaint. But very few things happen for no reason.
