I am not a Trump supporter. (If you can search effectively, you’ll find me calling him every vile thing I could think of.) But I’m not here to praise Trump; I’m here to bury Congress.

Congress abdicated its role, probably around the time Newt became Speaker, but certainly by the time Mitch made it his life’s work to make Obama a one-term president. (How’s that working out for you, Mitch?) Congress simply does not legislate anymore. Where’s the goddamn infrastructure bill? Why can’t we pass immigration reform? They are on the cutting room floor, because Congress lacks the ability to get anything done. Some members are afraid of losing their seats, but even more simply don’t give a shit.

Nature abhors a vacuum. It abhors it so much that it will allow a lying, cheating, sonofabitch to fill it. There is absolutely nothing positive to be said about Donald Trump except that he has never been a senator or a representative. And that’s plenty. He has never been a part of that feckless bunch that has done nothing and now complains that the President is usurping their power to do the things that they cannot get out of their own way to do.

There is a national emergency. It’s Congress’s failure to do its job. It is entirely possible that we would be better off if the legislative process were reversed, if the President could do anything that 2/3 of both houses doesn’t override. That’ll teach Congress to legislate on a bi-partisan basis. The “brave” Republicans threaten that a Democrat President will act on global warming under the Emergency Powers Act. That may be a sobering warning to the idiots who think climate change is no big deal, but do we really want to go down the climate change tubes because Congress won’t act? OF COURSE a Democrat President would do something about climate change if the Congress won’t. How is that a bad thing?

But it all springs from Congress not doing its job. If Congress would legislate, we would elect a qualified President to work with it. But if there isn’t going to be a responsible Congress, why should there be anything but a dictatorial President?
