There is a vast difference between withdrawing from a bilateral agreement ‘for cause’, and unilaterally violating a multilateral agreement that includes all major allies and every Security Counsel member.

I tend to agree. That’s why I would have preferred this to have been a treaty. Simple executive agreements just don’t have the political muscle. If an executive agreement is not a good one, the next executive has an obligation to withdraw from it. Other countries must insist on treaties with us if they want them to survive the next election.

However, sanctions for these are much lower than the harsh sanctions for nuclear development.

Really? Is there a list somewhere of what we are and are not allowed to do about terrorism? That sounds like tying one hand behind our back.

If you know so little about the agreement then make the effort to learn about it.

I am. But we’re all busy, so I am asking helpful people who already know the answers. Unfortunately, I don’t seem able to find anyone who fits that description. But it was worth a shot.
