I think it’s a toss-up now between Bloomberg and Klobuchar, and not in the sense that they are competing with each other. I think Amy is auditioning for Bloomberg’s support. He got into this race because he was dissatisfied with the field, and I don’t believe anyone in it now would please him other than, maybe, Amy.
But that remains to be seen. Her appearance on Bill Maher’s show last night was dreadful. She sounded like a politician. She was on a program called “Real Time,” but she spouted only talking points. The real Amy Klobuchar, if there is one, did not show up.
Only the real Amy Klobuchar has a good chance of beating therealDonaldTrump. With Trump, what you see is what you get: he promised tax cuts and judges, and he delivered tax cuts and judges. Yes, he’s a crude and, more important, dangerous, but we don’t listen to Cassandra; we’re not smart enough to distinguish her from Chicken Little.
So, we need to see the real Amy. If we do, and we are impressed on super Tuesday, I believe Bloomberg will throw his support to her. But if she fades, I can only hope that Bloomberg wins the nomination, because I believe any of the other candidates will lose the election.
