I used apparently because Bill Maher wasn’t really basing his statement on actual facts.

But that's not what "apparently" means. YOU are the one who should have said "maybe." But you decided to riff on something you have no reason to assume.

Not enough black celebrities have spoken out, and they have not all been well-received. Remember Bill Cosby, when he was still only Bill Cosby?

The world has become a lot more hospitable to black Americans than many of them perceive. Only black people who have escaped the ghetto can make the case, and they can only make the case if they do it at scale. Quantity matters, so the failure of anecdotes proves nothing.
