I watched the “documentary” linked in E O'Mahony’s comment. It’s a typical, out-of-context quote fest. Most telling is the excerpt of an interview with Daria Kaleniuk, executive director of Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Action Center. She complains (at 32:10) about the Burisma investigation being sabotaged, so, one might infer from the context of the excerpt, that she believes the Bidens had something to do with it. But she does not say so. Rather, as reported more fully, she says quite the opposite:

“Here is why I do not say anything about Hunter Biden … Vice President Biden called for Ukraine to fire Shokin not because of the Burisma investigation, absolutely not, but because Ukraine’s prosecutor general did not investigate Burisma. U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt insisted [in early 2016] that Shokin should be investigating Burisma. The U.S. government had a clear position: The Burisma probe was killed by Shokin.” [Emphasis and bracketed insertion in the linked article.] Biden says in the documentary that Amb. Pyatt briefed him before he told Poroschenko to fire Shokin.

Certainly, Biden’s claim that Lutsenko was “solid” is disgraceful, but I’m not a Biden fan. He is, however, the enemy of my enemy, and whatever one thinks of him, if Ms. Kaleniuk is to be cited as an authority, should she not be believed about why Shokin was fired? And if so, isn’t the documentary’s take on Joe Biden pretty much worthless?

In normal times, I would find Hunter Biden’s involvement with Burisma enough to disqualify his father simply for rearing such a turd. It’s hard to believe that Burisma would have hired and continued to pay HB without representations and results. But even if Joe behaved blamelessly, the dysfunction in his own family bespeaks a certain fecklessness. Who does that to his own father?

But these are not normal times. I believe Biden is the best chance to beat Trump and that someone only as bad as Biden would be a major cathartic improvement for our embarrassed electorate. There may not be any “goodies” in our politics, but there are more than fifty shades of gray, and a voter’s gotta do what a voter’s gotta do.
