I'm no Marxist, but I do know classism when I see it. The important thing about White feminism is not what it wanted, but what it got, namely, jobs that should have gone to Black men. Second-Wave Feminism was, in material terms, The Great White Hope. It should come as no surprise, then, that the particular issues facing Black women, as women in the Black community, don't mean anything to White feminists.
Black feminism is about being Black and female. Tactically, I believe solving the race problem should precede solving the gender problem. Maybe if Black men got a fair shake from Whitey, they could be more solicitous of the women in their lives. Indeed, if, but only if, Black men weren't discriminated against, Black women might find the benefits of White feminism are all they really need.
