"In Indiana, ... math ... is made easier by legally setting the value of pi to equal exactly three."

I was first made aware of this "law" in 1962, when my high school math teacher shared it with the class. My recollection, however, was that the Indiana definition was 22/7. But that was before Wikipedia, which explains that the so-called "Pi Bill,” which implied a value of 3.2 for pi, never actually became law. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Pi_Bill.

I don’t blame anyone for thinking that Indiana did try to legislate pi. A state that produces a Mike Pence could surely have enacted a law as stupid as its politicians.
