Israel is murdering massive numbers of Palestinians and it needs to stop.
That's all you need to say, and I have not even hinted that you would be wrong to say it. But your article says "genocide," because you want Israel's behavior to carry the same moral status as the Holocaust. That's a rhetorical ploy that cheapens the real thing, and I am calling bullshit on it. The examples I gave — and did not defend —seem to me analogous to what Israel is doing.
For some reason, maybe it's the title of your article, I thought the "discussion" was about, well, genocide. It's hard to see how disagreeing with that characterization is "changing the discussion." I am engaging with the claim in your title, and you are changing the discussion to whether Israel is killing too many people.
Would you have written the article if you could not use the word "genocide"? If so, you should have; if not, then my comment is very much on point.
