Malthus was not wrong, just way too early.

Could you say something about efuels? Instead of using renewables to power the grid, they are used to create hydrogen, which can be combined with CO2 to make hydrocarbons. Renewables supply the energy, but the output is artificial "fossil fuel," which can power locomotives, trucks, cars, etc. The theory is that hydrocarbons burned to release energy can be reconstituted by the application of renewable energy. If efuels are used for diesels and ships, that frees up oil for gasoline, which frees up the grid for non-transportation use.

Eventually, we will run out. But are we really there?
