Where were they on November 8, 2016? How did Mitch McConnell become Majority Leader? Roe made the liberal base lazy. Why politic an issue when SCOTUS is doing the heavy lifting? There will doubtless be much misery from this case, but in twenty years, I suspect we will look back and see it as the event that put policy back in our politics.

The mid-terms are coming. Let's see how many state houses the pro-choice constituency can take back, how many purple-state House and Senate seats they can claim. Alito's point is that abortion is a politically contentious matter that politics should resolve. He may personally hate abortion, but his authority runs only to saying that the court is not the place to fight the battle.
