Most men know they are not rapists, and most women know that most men are not rapists. So the fact that most rapists are men doesn’t bleed into a general defensiveness for men or suspicion for women.

“Toxic masculinity” is very different. There isn’t much agreement of where its edges are, and we hear day in and day out how most men are to some degree guilty of it. Rape is a binary event; toxic masculinity is an attitude. Any comparison between them and their public treatment is completely invalid.

Anyway, most of the public outrage is on the left. Nike and Gillette are exceptions. The cancel culture is mostly a snowflake thing, all about microaggressions and insensitivities. Choosing conservative backlash as an avatar for feckless political correctness requires a tin ear and well-placed blinders or, more likely, simple dishonesty.
