Ms. Daum rightly takes Cancel Culture to task for unforgiving totalitarianism. Being an "ally" has become something of an honor one must earn, like a merit badge. That's just dumb. But identity activists have painted themselves into a corner by questioning the value of support from the privileged. No knights on white horses or saviors with white skin need apply. One lesson of history is that righteousness confers neither wisdom nor smarts.

One quibble, though. Murphy Brown has stuck in my craw for nearly thirty years. Ms. Brown's bad example was not "single motherhood." Ms. Brown, an an avatar of privileged White feminism, had unprotected sex with (at least) two men in such rapid succession in the time of AIDS that she could not say for sure who fathered her child. Mamma Mia! I think a bit of slut shaming was definitely in order.
