No, there should not be coercion or compulsion (not sure of the difference). But I believe there can be peer pressure in the form of celebrating mothers as "special." There is no Childless By Choice holiday.

The automaton problem is fascinating. If we don't reproduce, we die out. The question, then, is whether, thanks to automation, we should be ok with a population that declines for a bit. The problem with a "yes" answer is that automation may be making the population decline possible, but it is not driving it. Rather, the general improvement in child life expectancy has made so-called K-strategy relatively more attractive and R-strategy less so.
