Oh, I agree. I have been hit with "Do your own research" any number of times. But it's only bad form when it's passive aggressive. I don't know any more about the origins of "White privilege" than you do. You're the one who wrote an article about it. Surely you researched its origins? My claim about the origins is inferential. I assume that the term was intended - or at least certain - to be weaponized from the nature of the word "privilege."
