Please don’t use the word “conservative” to describe the racists, plutocrats, and fools who make up Trump’s coalition. They are Trumpists, not conservatives, however they style themselves to avoid admitting their true motives. There is a whole world of conservative never-Trumpers out here, politically homeless, but still conservative. Joe Scarborough and William Kristol are conservatives. But they are not Trumpists.

I agree completely that you can’t argue with Trumpists. They believe Trump is good or that he is bad but “so what?” So the advice is sound. But conservatives want to conserve our representative democracy, the one with the rule of law and with leaders who lead. We will need the word eventually to describe a political ideology worthy of the designation. Trumpism is not an ideology at all; it’s a religion.
