In strictly political terms — there is nothing good about what has happened to pregnant women in shithole states— Trump’s Court has been a godsend for Democrats. As a constitutional conservative, I like some of the Court’s readings of the law. (Not all of them, so don’t throw counterexamples at me, especially since I am not defending any of them here.) But as a Never-Trumper, I celebrate the Court’s decisions that make politics great again.

How many Democrats has Dobbs elected? How many will it elect? If the Democrats can retake the house and/or hold the senate, it will be because Dobbs brought out the vote. Roe gave theocrats something to run on. Dobbs did the same for Democrats. Turnout turnabout is fair play.

Then came the Fourteenth Amendment case about disqualifying insurrectionists. I think SCOTUS got that one right for the wrong reason. The amendment was aimed at a region; it should not be read to apply to a national office. If states with a majority of the electoral college want to elect an insurrectionist to the presidency, so be it. But if they don’t, their voters must show up at the polls to say so, because the courts are not going to do their job as voters.
