So, why when a Black person writes about their experiences on Medium, a White person, usually a man, has to come outta nowhere demanding data?

But that doesn't happen. None of the examples cited here involve personal experiences. When Herbert Dyer writes about murders in Chicago, was he murdered? If not, then he is not writing about his experiences. Are you saying it's ok to make shit up because "Medium is not a sociological journal"? Data would strengthen Mr. Dyer's claim. He should be pleased to provide it.

Are you any of the people in your list of "the data"? If not, you are not writing about your experiences. How far does "500 years of slavery" go to prove any fact you assert?

People make mistakes. Are all of those Trump supporters who believe and repeat The Big Lie themselves "lying" if they believe the election was stolen from them? Does asking them for data imply that they are "lying"? Is there no faulty logic on Medium? Is calling it out really a way of saying someone is lying? Some faulty logic comes from, wait for it, faulty logic.

You are free to present claims without data, and readers are free to ignore them as unsubstantiated. It is a courtesy to you to give you a chance to convince the open-minded but unpersuaded. Take it or don't.
