"Stupid" is way too reductive. It DOES matter who the shield is. You posit my neighbor's daughter. I posit the terrorist's daughter. Is she innocent? Does it matter?
Just how much rape and torture must my loved ones endure to keep from harming my enemy's loved ones (pretending for argument's sake that HAMAS gives a shit about the people of Gaza). I don't have to "blame" the victim to make the incidental harm I inflict on them not my problem. Call it just wrong, place, wrong time if you must. But unless you are prepared to tell me just how much harm I must endure not to injure "innocent" civilians, you aren't making an argument at all. You're just being, er, what's that word again?
The argument that there are ways to go after HAMAS that don't do as much collateral damage is a non sequitur. The human shield argument assumes that there is no better way. If you want to call the argument in any given case a lie, that's one thing. But that's not the same thing as refuting the idea that the harm done to true human shields is the responsibility of the people using them.
