Terms like "Our leaders" and "holding public office" are misleading. This is the PRESIDENT and he holds the HIGHEST political office. We have plenty of opportunity not to elect a criminal to that position. The candidates are thoroughly vetted. If WE elect a criminal, and he commits the sorts of crimes we have every reason to believe he will commit, WE are the ones who need to be held accountable.

Plenty of "our leaders" and people "holding political office" have been prosecuted for their behavior in an out of office. A retired 4-star general was indicted just the other day. But the presidency is special because the last thing we want is for the fate of the country to depend on its leader not coloring outside the lines.

Trump paid off blackmailers. If he had to lie about doing so - otherwise why bother to pay them off? - so be it. In the minds of the average Joe, there is no there there. Huffing and puffing about "felonies" and "no man is above the law" just makes people with TDS look silly. (When he wins his appeal, will he no longer be the orange asshole he was in 2016?)
