One of the saddest things about our times is how few American care about America. They care about themselves. American politics is a massively multiplayer iterated prisoners' dilemma game. We can win it only by obeying certain rules, the most important of which is that obstruction must not be a winning strategy. So long as making the president look bad is a winning strategy, we are doomed.

The Republican Party has been following that strategy since at least 1994, and the wages of the sin is death of the party. Hitler did not create the Nazi party; he took over an existing but feckless party. History does rhyme. The most important thing in the upcoming American election is that Trump and the Republican Party lose it badly.
