What’s up with that?

The title (except for the XX) is cut and pasted from a “response” to a comment I made. I get a lot of these, all ostensibly from the author of the story I’m commenting on, some of them with Telegram addresses. I have, of course, not done as asked, and not because I’m not on those apps.

I can’t understand how Medium allows authors’ identities to be hijacked for this purpose. I know emails and phone numbers can be spoofed, but user ID’s should be a heavier lift.

Lots of people must be getting these messages. If anyone has responded, I think we’d all be interested in what happens next. Which is not to say anyone should respond, even to investigate. That’s Medium’s job as SYSOP. But what’s done is done.
