That hardly seems fair, especially since rural, agricultural states like the Dakotas have very different interests and priorities than the urban, industrial states on the coasts.
But that is the point of the senate. How are the interests of the inherently less populated agricultural states to be protected if they are not given more representation per capita? Some Americans grow food, and some Americans consume food they did not grow. Those two groups need to have essentially equal political bargaining power or there is no point in both of them being in the same union.
Maybe you're too nice. The reason our government does not work is that Republican leaders since Gingrich have been assholes. They don't care about governing. They care about keeping America White. The rest is just noise.
The fix is really simple. Restore the Mr. Smith Goes to Washington filibuster. Then, obstruction would be too painful and governing would happen. That Schumer can't get that done is a disgrace. Maybe he'll need 53 senators. In that case, the party should campaign on it this fall. Get 51 senators and candidates on board and promise to do it if they win.
