You say the role of the president is to “unify” people, but that ignores a basic reality that class exists.

That’s why we have a Congress where the classes negotiate. If you weren’t so busy being angry, you would have read the part of my post where I said that there is a place for anger in our government. Just not in the White House.

We have essentially a tri-cameral “legislature”” a House for populist wrangling, a Senate for partisan deliberating, and a Presidency for parental unification. Putting a woke SJW in the White House completely misses the point of the Constitution. Unity is where the plus-sum opportunities lie. We are dumb if we don’t have someone whose job it is to make the thing work. Imperfection is not snake oil.

As for the clip, it’s nice to see that whataboutism is alive and well on the Left. If you think Bernie would do more to bring the country together than Joe, that’s your privilege. But if you are trying to prove that Joe is angry, too, with a clip from when his hair still had color, you’re not really responding to my argument; you are arguing people where I am arguing principle.

I am not a Biden fan. But I am a fan of the Constitution, and I believe its structure demands a President who at least campaigns on unity. If we get fooled by a “uniter not a divider,” that’s on us. But we should not start out looking for a resenter-in-chief. We tried that in 2016.
