The Answer to a Bad Guy With a Gun?
My two cents
Let’s allow that the best way to deal with a bad guy with a gun is to send in a good guy with a bigger gun. But that is true only because the bad guy already has the gun. If he didn’t have a gun, he wouldn’t be there.
No one takes seriously the idea that all of the recent mass shootings would have been attempted, much less succeeded, if the guns used were not available to the shooter. In the case of Uvalde, for example, I think it will come out that the first responders were not up to the suicide mission of using their hand-guns against a guy with an assault rifle and body armor. Maybe the cops should have been better equipped, but I believe that being outgunned was part of the problem, and they would not have been outgunned by a kid with no gun.
It just must become harder for young men who fit the school shooter profile to get firearms and, especially, assault rifles. Yes, outliers are going to outlie, and liars like that asshole senator whose name I won’t type but rhymes with “ooze” are going to lie about them. Nothing changes the fact that if eighteen-year-olds could not legally buy AR-15s, there would be more children alive today.
Mental illness is certainly the “root cause” of these shootings, but no law of logic says that the only place to deal with…
