The Burkean position is the social equivalent of Carl Sagan's view that extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. Change is fine if the case is made. There is no "...regardless of what they do" in conservative thought. If the content is "egregious," nothing in conservatism demands that it be tolerated. In the 1850's, some American conservatives defended practices that today's American conservatives don't support. How do you explain the change in attitude if conservatives never accept change in praxis?

For reasons that are not clear to me, you seem hell bent on making "conservative" a dirty word. Are you really saying because fascist assholes call themselves conservatives, anyone who claims to be a conservative is a fascist asshole? I submit that conservatives are aggressively anti-populist and anti-Trump. I certainly am. The Federalist Papers are about creating a government that protects the demos from the tyrants but does not allow the inmates to run the asylum. Trumpism is about the inmates taking over. There is no intellectual

To be sure, conservatism serves those who benefit from the status quo, so conservatives are the people who argue for the status quo. Certainly, those who oppose the status quo won't make those arguments, and shouldn't, as their hearts won't be in it. But it's simple genetic fallacy to argue that the conservatives are lying or even wrong just because they have enough stake in the problem to advance their position.

For me, Trumpism is about protecting race and gender by any means necessary. People whose identity accounts for their sustenance and self-esteem vote their chromosomes. These people are legitimately concerned about "the issues," but their bias is reflected in whom they blame for their problems. Inflation was not Joe Biden's fault. If White people and men thought that the Democrats didn't hate them, they would believed Kamala when she said it wasn't. But Trumpists think the Democrats hate them, so, rather than believe Harris, they believed the lying orange turd who says it's ok to be them. Putting a philosophical gloss on what is essentially identity politics doesn't help.
