The Kirk Memorial: A Tale of Two Eulogies
It was the best of lies, it was the worst of truths…
There were two important orations at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service. One was by his widow Erika Kirk, the other by his symbiote Donald Trump. I have nothing nice to say about Charlie Kirk, Erika Kirk, or Donald Trump. Each in their own way posed or still poses a threat to me and mine. But still, I think it is worth noting how Mrs. Kirk and Mr. Trump differed in their styles. I call it “style,” not “being,” because I cannot comprehend why anyone who believes what Mrs. Kirk says she believes could support anyone who says what Donald Trump says.
Here’s Mrs. Kirk:
My husband, Charlie. He wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life. That young man. That young man on the cross. Our Savior said, “Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.” That man. That young man. I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did in his. What Charlie would do. The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love.
