The parties are different because the rules are different. Put back the filibuster rule where it was in Ike's day, and Congress will start working again. Under the current rule, obstruction is a winning strategy for the minority party in the senate. Under the old rule, obstruction was too difficult, so negotiation happened. The filibuster rule is the butterfly, and the collapse of our politics can be traced to it.

Biden has been an excellent president, and he would probably be an excellent president again. But he is too old to be "the guy" who represents the greatest power on earth. He should be behind the scenes making things happen. The Dems real problem is that Kamala Harris will campaign like Hillary Clinton, with the same results. Where was she when Joe was at those union rallies? The blue wall is white, not pink or purple or rainbow. But for his age, Biden wins that constituency. It's not clear that is chances of winning it are worse than hers.
