The unthinkable has happened: the Left has lost the working class.

I would say the left has lost control of the word "Left." All of your complaints are spot on. The Democrats used to be the party of the working man. Now, the "working man" is an oppressor, and the victims' coalition has taken over the Democrat party, the "progressive" label, and the general designation of "left." Just as the Republicans have become Nazis, the Democrats have become their victims.

I guess it was inevitable. The fifties and sixties were so good for American workers that they hardly seemed to need a political party. Then, Civil Rights happened, and the Republicans and Democrats redrew the lines from class to identity.

The battle has always been between the people who like how things are and the people who don't. As the issue with the brightest dividing line changes, so do our major parties.
