These are arguments that ALL opponents of loan forgiveness make. The "boomer' thing is just puerile baloney.
Can we afford to forgive student debt? Sure.
Is it fair? No. The schmuck factor is a big thing in politics. Blanket loan forgiveness makes those of us who worked our way through college recently, or waited to go until we could afford it, or made some other sacrifice to get a degree feel like schmucks. Life's not fair. But government should be.
The solution to the student debt problem is to subsidize all college grads who are not wealthy. Singling out just those who borrowed is simply bad policy, which makes it bad politics.
