These checks make sense only because Congress can't figure out how to do the right thing. "Working" people don't need checks. "Working" people are, duh, FUCKING WORKING. They have PAYCHECKS. The people who need help are unemployed, and they need, duh again, UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.
Hawley is pushing these checks because they sound good fast and because they provide a small amount of relief without creating any incentive not to work, something right-wing assholes like him think unemployment insurance creates. He is right that this is an emergency, and he is right to show passion about it in a way the Dems do not, but Schumer and Pelosi should have attached genuine relief measures to that speech, not this transparent sugar high.
Hawley is a Trump guy. Every last one of them is an irredeemable threat to the Republic. Everything any one of them says can only possibly be right by accident, because every one of them is either too stupid or too evil to have any credibility. That's not to say the hoopleheads won't buy what Hawley's selling. Seventy-million Americans voted for Trump. How can you go wrong promising bright, shiny objects to a country like that?
