Was the Rwandan genocide about race?
I don't know or care. It was about tribal conflict, whatever its source.
Hitler wanted to kill the Jews because they were different enough from Aryans to identify as "not us." The label we attach to that wish and to the acquiescence and/or complicity of individual non-Jews does not seem very important to me.
I have no problem saying that Hitler's campaign against the Jews was "about" race (Aryan purity), whereas the Croats' participation in that campaign was "about" old-school anti-Semitism. Where that leaves the "Holocaust" isn't clear, which is really my point.
