When did “conservative” become a synonym for bigoted? About the same time as “liberal” became a synonym for stupid? (Liberals are “progressives” now. Conservatives have not yet chosen a new name for prudent skepticism in public affairs.)

Trump and his deplorables are not “right-wing.” They are populists shits, Miniver Cheevy’s looking, if I may indulge a mixed allusion, for reasons not in themselves or their stars that they are underlings. Conservatism and “right” politics have nothing to do with it. Perhaps Devon Price has been brain-washed by Rachel Maddow into thinking so.
