When I read an article about trade, I search for "geopolitcs" and "strategic." If those words are not there, I know the article has tunnel vision.

OF COURSE consumers pay more in a trade war. The whole point of the war is to blunt the comparative advantage that each trading partner has, and that means higher prices. But should the US really be dependent on China for anything? Whatever it costs to free ourselves from dependency on our enemies for strategic goods is just a form of defense spending. We do it because we must, not because it makes us richer. So saying it makes us poorer gives us no information we can use.
