While young people are becoming increasingly disillusioned with capitalism, they can't do anything about it because they are marginalised as a voting group.
I missed the part about how young people are not allowed to vote. If they don't show up, they can hardly complain about being outvoted.
Also, I'm thinking Mr. Abela has no grandchildren.
Old people tend to be conservative because new ideas tend to be wrong, even though some are right. Seniors have been offered more snake oil than their kids, and they have been burned by charlatans in their youth. Of course, some day the sky will fall, Cassandra will warn us, and we won't listen. That's the price of not taking any wooden nickles.
Those of us who have been around awhile have seen things get better after they got worse. Young people have seen things get worse but haven't lived long enough to see them get better. That may account for the difference in perspective.
