That was true when the word packed a punch. Now, not so much. The power of a bad label is inversely proportional to the number of people it is pinned on. If you want to redefine "racist" to include unconscious bias and passive enjoyment of privilege, feel free. Just don't expect anyone to give a crap when you apply it to them.
Words like "racist" should be saved for special cases. If David Duke is no worse than I - he's a racist and I'm a racist - then he's getting off easy. Or does Ms. Jacobs have a retronym for actual racists like Mr. Duke? No matter. The word is losing its sting because self-styled "anti-racists" think it still has one. But it doesn't, and anti-racists have no one to blame for that but themselves.
