Why bother? There must be something else to talk about. (It won't be politics in the US, though, because a Bible literalist has no bullshit detector and so actually thinks Donald Trump tells the truth more often than a magic eight ball.) I suggest sports.

I did run into a Bible literalist in 1968, when I was young enough not to know better than to engage. We were in basic training together. I asked him how Noah got all those animals on the ark. His answer: "I don't know. He just did." That to me is the key to Bible literalism. If it has to be turtles all the way down, then it's turtles all the way down, Q.E.D. Bible literalism worked for him, and it was not an act of friendship to stir up doubt.
