Yes. I said you pay more for the domestic substitute. But it's not 'inflation"; it's an increase in the real cost of production - higher labor costs here.

The alternative is exploiting the underpayment of foreign workers, which is a moral issue. If we wouldn't treat our workers that way, why are we willing to buy from people who do?

Tariffs come in four flavors. Some are intended simply to raise revenue. Some are intended to eschew products of nasty regimes. Some protect jobs. Some ensure self-sufficiency in strategic goods. There is no one-size-fits-all critique of the device.
